Welsh Honey Cheese is a Triple Award Winner!
Over the moon! I won Gold and 2 x Silver Awards at the biggest Cheese Awards in the WORLD! This happened yesterday at the International Cheese and Dairy Awards In Stafford (moved from Nantwich). It was an incredible day with over five and a half thousand cheeses submitted worldwide.
As a regular judge at the ICDA, it is a privilege to judge a library of cheese from around the world - from hard, soft, wine washed, blue..the list goes on. It is a big day in the cheese and dairy calendar.
My Welsh Honey Cheese won, with the honey made locally by busy bees in Dyserth, North Wales. I had excellent comments and it's a cheese that is delicious, especially when spread on digestive biscuits.
When judging (not my category!) you are allocated a Supervisor, 1st Judge (me) and 2nd Judge. The process takes around two hours, depending on what cheese categories and how many cheeses you are judging. So, our largest category had 21 different cheeses in it - and deciding Gold, Silver and Bronze prize winners is always a pretty tough job. Especially knowing how much time and effort has been put into making those delicious cheeses.
I hope you have your cheeseboards at the ready, and do explore the amazing range of cheeses available in the UK, whilst supporting the cheese and dairy industry!
